The Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre

The Boston Massacre, also called, the incident on king street, was an event in which some drunken Bostonians threw snowballs and rocks to some british soldiers in the colonial Boston in America. Of course, like any other person on the world would have done, the soldiers defended themselves with what they had, which was weapons. In result of this, the soldiers killed five civilians and six other men were injured. The killed men were Sammuel Gray, Crispus Attucks, Patrick Carr, James Cadwell, and Samuel Maverick. The soldiers went to trial which was the correct process to do and were set free but they had to paint their thumbs meaning they were murderers. Sadly for the soldiers, in those times most Bostonians and even other colonists hated everything related to the crown, including soldiers. All this hate was because they wanted to have representation in government because they payed taxes but England would not agree to place them in power, this was known by them as "Taxation without representation".

All that England had to do was to accept some colonists to be in the Parliament but the English leaders' arrogance would not accept this, England had to be seen as powerful and making colonists enter Parliament because they asked for it would make England seem as anyone could manipulate it. All because of England wanting to seem so powerful, many people were killed and this attitude is even responsible for the American Revolution. England was taxing the colonists for many things and made quartering, sugar, and stamp acts to get some money from all the security of the colonies and from the money spent in the French and Indian war. The colonists would somehow accept and deal with the new taxes if they were given representation in Parliament but their petition was constantly denied. Just imagine how many deaths, tortures, and threats would not taken place if England accepted to give the colonists representation. England wouldn't have even spent so much money in wars and security for the crown's representatives.

From my point of view, the soldiers were judged by people in an unfair way because the soldiers were only defending themselves of the attackers. The soldiers were in full rights to counterattack because if they wouldn't respond in this way, the soldiers would be the ones killed. When the Patriots did things such as Tarring and Feathering nobody would judge them and nobody protected the poor tax collectors and soldiers. This event was over reacted because the Patriots needed to influence the rest of the thirteen colonies. With this overreacted event, the Patriots would achieve their goal which was to make people hate the soldiers and everything related to England's taxes supporters. Well, this is another event in consequence to England's ambition of power.
