The Second Continental Congress was one of the many attempts to resolve the situation that was being held in America. In this congress all 13 colonies sent delegates to represent their colonies. At the time not all delegates were seeking independence. The Congress was held in Philadelphia where different actions were taken by the delegates. This took place in 1775 and was a great breakthrough for the beginning of the United States' independence. The Second Continental Congress was of great importance for the colonies because it created a plan of action for what would be done to solve their situation with the British.
In this Congress many new things were agreed on and would be created. For one thing, an army was officially created. George Washington was named the supreme commander of this army. This decision would later benefit the patriots in a great way, proving Washington to be a great leader and responsible for the independence of the United States of America. The Olive Branch Petition was also created. This was a letter written directly to the King of England in an attempt to mend the situation in a peaceful way. The King, George III, refused to agree to this petition and instead sent more troops to America, stating that the colonists were in a state of "rebellion".
The Second Continental Congress was a great way for the colonists to unite for a common cause. They were all motivated to solve the current situation in the colonies and wanted to work together to achieve their goal. This demonstrated their unity and love for the colonies and proved the courage that they had. Even though the colonists did not have the support of the King and were outnumbered greatly, they never lost faith. With Washington in the lead as commander of the army, a positive vibe could be felt and great things were expected from him. The future of the colonies looked excitingly prominent with the attitude that they were taking and good things could be expected after this congress.
